Rebel Rock racing VIR Post-Race Report
After trying to score a podium finish since the BMW Performance 200 at Daytona, Rebel Rock Racing drivers Martin Barkey and Kyle Marcelli had great races but could not catch a break. It was just a question of time for the two Rebel Rock Canadian racers. At VIR the No. 08 MBRP Inc. Performance Exhaust/K&N/The Sports Lab/Vitargo/The Garage/Jackson Transportation Systems/GO PUCK/All Ontario Recycling had a great race. They were in contention to win it but after an unexpected racing incident Marcelli missed the opportunity to take the lead and crossed the finish line in 3rd place. After the race Martin Barkey was really proud of his Rebel Rock team and his co-driver Kyle Marcelli."Our RRR /MBRP 08 Porsche was prepared perfectly for VIR, the car was bloody well spot on. VIR is a good track for the Porsche, I really enjoyed racing here. What a thrill for me as a rookie to be standing on the podium with some of the best GT drivers in North America... something I won't forget," said Martin Barkey after celebrating his first CTSCC podium.Kyle Marcelli was successful in the past at VIR and was one of the race winning contenders during half of the Oak Tree Grand Prix CTSCC race but at the end had to settle with a third place finish."Overall it was a great weekend for the #08 Rebel Rock Racing/ MBRP Porsche. We were targeting a best finish for the season and we accomplished just that with a P3," said Kyle Marcelli after the race. "I battled hard for the race lead but made a small mistake which cost us the win. I dropped wheels off the track at the top of the very fast esses, this picked up grass in the radiators and began to cause overheating issues. I had to short shift the car for the last 8-10 laps. Nonetheless, we are very pleased with our result and look forward to the next CTSC round at the Circuit of the Americas."Rebel Rock Racing team owner Jim Jonsin was not at VIR to support his troops but watched the race Live from his computer to see the boys in action and was the first to congratulate them after the podium."Everything we have set out to accomplish as a team is becoming a reality," commented Jim Jonsin after the VIR event. "The work and effort behind this past weekend at VIR was nothing less than Greatness, the Rebel Rock Racing crew and drivers have worked there asses off and I'm happy to see the smiles and tears after the podium finish at VIR. Kyle Marcelli and Martin Barkey drove a stellar race and the crew was right there when it counted. I'm proud of this team and so happy we have such Great People to share the ups and downs with. I personally want to thank Martin and Kyle for believing in this amazing Group of Professional and calling Rebel Rock Racing their home."The No. 7 Rebel Rock Racing/CarryOn.com/B+ Foundation/Eagle Tech Systems/Sideskinz/Stinkerz co-drivers Al Carter and Brett Sandberg had the ambition to score a podium too like they did in Kansas but were not able to do it this time despite a great race. Carter and Sandberg had a good strategy but finished 10th. After 10 races the duo is now ranked 12th in the 2014 Team point standings. The 08 team is now ranked 13th after VIR and with two races to go (Austin and Atlanta), both teams have an opportunity to finish in the top ten overall this season.Despite trying hard, Gary Browne and Kevin Wheeler driving the No. 87 Arehucas Rum/ Ingersoll Rand/ Planet Pit/ Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils/GIAC for the first time together nursed their damaged Cayman home 18th after a tough race that included being knocked into the tire barrier by a competitor early in the race.Corey Fergus and Tom Dyer driving the No. 88 Ingersoll Rand /Oakley/Planetpit.com/Fatburger Crenshaw/Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils/Western Star/Monticello Motor Club /Alliance Truck Parts were also hoping to score their own podium finish. They kept their Cayman in or near the top-10 before eventually bringing the car home 14th in ST.The Oak Tree Grand Prix CTSCC race at VIR will air on Sunday, August 31 at noon EDT on Fox Sports 1. The next round of the CTSCC is scheduled at Circuit of The Americas in Austin on September 19.Follow Rebel Rock Racing's Live on track activities at
