IndyCar: Texas confirms 2015 race date

Put the questions surrounding the future of Texas Motor Speedway's position on the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series to rest: the track has officially announced that it will retain its traditional date next year.

The Firestone 600 will be contested June 6 and be telecast on NBCSN. It is the 19th consecutive season that the Fort Worth superspeedway will host an IndyCar race.

Ed Carpenter held off Will Power and three other drivers on a restart in the final three laps this past June to win for the first time at the 1.5-mile, high-banked oval.

"I am very happy to hear that the Verizon IndyCar Series will be heading back to Texas next year," said Carpenter. "I have always enjoyed racing at the track. Our races have changed a lot over the years, but it has always been one of the best stops on the schedule.

"Our Texas win in 2014 has been the highlight of my season so far this year, and I cannot wait to come back next year as the defending champion of the race. Texas Motor Speedway has been such a great partner for the Verizon IndyCar Series, so it only makes sense that we will be coming back in 2015 for our 27th race at the track."
