WRC: Ogier has second crash in Germany

World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Ogier's chances of salvaging points from Rally Germany all but vanished with his second crash of the weekend on Saturday morning.

Ogier had gone off the road on Friday's final stage when narrowly leading Volkswagen team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala. Although he was unable to get back onto the road, his Polo was undamaged, and he restarted for leg two in 34th overall with 10 minutes of Rally 2 penalties.

The Frenchman lost further time when he overshot a corner and had to reverse on Saturday's opener, and he then crashed out again a mile onto the day's second stage, Peterberg.

Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia were both unhurt in the incident, but the stage was canceled because their VW caused severe damage to a barrier.

Latvala continues to lead the rally overall, with his advantage over second-placed Citroen driver Kris Meeke now up to 40.2 seconds.

If Latvala is able to take maximum points on the rally with Ogier not scoring, he could reduce the championship deficit from 44 points to 16 with four rounds to go.
