Mecum’s Daytime Auction in Monterey reports more than $34.6 million in sales

In the throes of Monterey's celebrated Car Week, 645 classic and collector cars and a selection of vintage and antique motorcycles took to Del Monte Golf Course for the sixth-annual Mecum Daytime Auction, Aug. 14-16. An excellent crowd of active bidders from around the globe coupled with an exceptional lineup of offerings contributed to Mecum's highest-grossing Monterey auction to date with total sales reaching $34,651,635 throughout the three-day event.

Six of the 361 cars sold surpassed the $1-million mark during the auction on Saturday topped by a 1961 Ferrari 250 Series II Cabriolet (Lot S181) with 5,200 original kilometers, which sold for $2.25 million. The ex-Peter Revson 1972 McLaren M20 Can-Am racer (Lot S170) achieved top honors as the highest-selling racecar with a strong hammer price of $2 million, and a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Berline Convertible (Lot S206) brought $1.425 million landing the third seat in top sales. Also making the top 10 was a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition (Lot S120) that sold for more than half of a million dollars at a record-setting $510,000.

Motorcycles also achieved impressive results with a 1930 Indian Chief (Lot S212) formerly owned by Steve McQueen hammering for $100,000 and a 1915 Indian 8 Valve Board Track Racer coming in at $70,000.
