DTM: Audi admits winless season a concern

Audi's DTM boss Dieter Gass admits it is important for the manufacturer to avoid a winless season in 2014.

Audi is the only of the three manufacturers in the DTM to not have won a race so far this year, with just three opportunities left to get off the mark. The winless streak is in stark contrast to last season, when Mike Rockenfeller won two races for Audi on his way to the drivers' title.

"It's not nice, definitely," conceded Gass. "We are racing to win races, and we haven't achieved that this season even though the car performance is genuinely there. We're always up there with a few cars. But we never manage to get to the top spot.

"You have to be realistic, and we have made a few mistakes. But we haven't always been lucky, either. But we know that in motor racing you make your own luck, and we haven't been able to achieve that."

Despite the lack of wins, competitiveness has not been an issue for Audi in 2014. Audi drivers have amassed 10 podium finishes from the seven races so far this season, and on four separate occasions have taken 2-3 finishes.

"At least we can go to every race weekend and know that we can have a shot at the victory," added Gass. "I think that's better than going to a race with a car that's too slow, and you know you can't win unless you're lucky."
