Blomqvist beats Verstappen to poles

Tom Blomqvist and Max Verstappen will line up first and second for both of Sunday's Nurburgring European Formula 3 races after the pair dominated the postponed qualifying session.

On a sunny morning at the track after Saturday's showers, the Carlin and van Amersfoort drivers' fastest and second-fastest lap times were good enough to take the front row for both the second and third races.

Race 1 winner and new Red Bull protege Verstappen was guilty of some blatant blocking of points leader Esteban Ocon during the session, and was shown a warning flag for his antics.

It did have the effect of spoiling at least one of Ocon's laps, though, and the Frenchman struggled to find much clear road. He will start both races fourth.

Ocon's Italian Prema teammate Antonio Fuoco will start the races fifth and third, and will swap places with his countryman Antonio Giovinazzi – who starts third and fifth for Carlin.

The session was interrupted by a red flag with six minutes to go, when Roy Nissany spun off into the gravel on his way out of the Esses.
