JDC-Miller MotorSports Visits Podium At Road America

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (August 14, 2014) – After a season high 4th place finish at the 12Hours of Sebring, JDC-Miller MotorSports and drivers Chris Miller and Stephen Simpson scored the team’s first podium of the year with a third-place finish in the Prototype Challenge (PC) class and 11th overall in Sunday’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America in the No. 85 JDC-Miller LaModerna/Red Line Oil ORECA FLM09.

With a challenging practice and qualifying behind them, driver Chris Miller started from ninth in class and showed great speed at the start of the race keeping in touch with the lead cars in his opening stint.  He was able to make up several positions and avoided trouble in a hectic opening hour of the race which saw several incidents causing multiple full course yellows. He handed the car over running 3rd in class by the time the first round of pit stops came at the one-hour mark to co-driver Stephen Simpson. Simpson, having never driven at Road America, used extra caution at the beginning of his stint to preserve the car for the end of the race in an incident strewn event that saw more than half of the race slowed by six yellow flags. While driving mistake free, Simpson was fast when it counted and got closer and closer to the 1st and 2nd class running cars during the final laps with a podium in clear sight. At the end closing Prototype class traffic fighting for positions themselves prevented a final attack for an even better finish and Simpson settled for 3rd.“Big thanks to the entire JDC-Miller crew which worked flawless during the entire race and nobody made the slightest mistake. I always said if we could stay out of trouble we will have a good result”, said Simpson.“It was a hectic opening hour of the race”, Miller explained. “I had good speed from the start and could make up several positions during the opening laps but then got hit from behind when I had to check up to avoid an incident ahead of me.  The contact only caused minor damage but did not hurt the performance of the car and it was still good enough to drive it up to 3rd in class before handing it over to Stephen”, Miller summed up his opening stint."Chris and Stephen did an awesome job driving this weekend. We clearly struggled in practice and qualifying but our race pace was good and the entire JDC-Miller MotorSports team did a great job all weekend. The crew was flawless in the race with absolutely no mistakes during pit stops.  We had our friends from LaModerna here for the first time, which makes this 3rd place finish even sweeter", John Church summed up the team’s first podium finish of the season.“I am extremely proud of how far we have come this season after a late start to our program”, team principle John Miller explained. “There is still a lot to learn and always room for improvement, but this first podium will make us work even harder for the remaining races of the season and towards next year”.  The next stops for JDC-Miller MotorSports TUDOR United Sports Car Championship Prototype Challenge program will be at Virginia International Raceway August 23-24.Source:
