MotoGP: Marquez ahead in second Indy practice

Marc Marquez ended day one of MotoGP's Indianapolis weekend on top as he set the Friday afternoon pace.

Having been a quiet sixth in practice one, Marquez was fastest for the majority of the second session on the lead factory Honda. He was usurped in dramatic fashion with six minutes to go when Pramac duo Andrea Iannone and Yonny Hernandez plus works rider Andrea Dovizioso suddenly produced an all-Ducati top three as they crossed the line in unison in a drafting pack with Valentino Rossi.

The Desmosedici dominance didn't last, as Marquez jumped back to first with a 1m32.882s soon after, but Iannone kept himself in second place, 0.222 seconds behind the championship leader.

Jorge Lorenzo was top Yamaha man in third, with his teammate Valentino Rossi back in ninth this time after setting the morning pace. Dovizioso and Hernandez ended up fourth and seventh, split by Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl.

Although weather forecasts for the weekend are mixed and rain affected some of the support sessions on Friday, the MotoGP field have had dry running throughout so far.
