NASCAR: Piquet to make Cup debut at the Glen

Ex-Formula 1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr. will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup debut for Randy Humphrey Racing in this weekend's Watkins Glen round.

Piquet rebuilt his career in NASCAR's Truck and Nationwide Series after losing his Renault F1 seat in mid-2009, but he has mainly focused on America's Global Rallycross Championship – which he currently leads – this year.

The Humphrey team entered several Cup rounds with Dave Blaney in the first half of the 2014 season, although it only qualified for four races and finished just once, when Blaney took 33rd at Dover. The team announced prior to June's Sonoma event that it would pause its program and carry out some re-organization before returning.

Piquet is assured of a start at Watkins Glen, as the entry is only 43 cars.
