Turner BMW Tallies Top-10 at Indy

Amesbury, MA. – July 28th, 2014 -- The No. 97 GS class M3 of Michael Marsal and Tom Kimber-Smith scored its second top-ten finish of the season in Friday afternoon's two hour and forty five minute IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The duo finished in P7 after a hard fought race on the 2.49 mile road course at the Brickyard.

The strong finish comes in round 8 of the 2014 season, bringing to an end the string of tough luck and adversity since their season best third place finish at Daytona back in January. Starting in the seventh row on Friday, Michael Marsal was quick to gain several positions to run consistently inside the top ten in his opening hour-long stint. Just twenty minutes into the race, a strategy call took advantage of a caution bringing Marsal in for two outside Continental Tires and fuel to get him back on track for a string of fast and consistent laps. Kimber Smith followed up Marsal's solid first stint to keep the No. 97 BMW M3 inside the top ten for the remainder of the race, clinching the sixth position early on in his stint. With thirty minutes to go Kimber Smith was able to overcome an increasingly slick track toward to hold off a hard charging Mustang and Nissan to cross the bricks in P7. "Our Turner BMW was strong here at Indy, the entire team worked extremely hard to nail down the setup with such a condensed schedule. I am very happy with our seventh place finish and I think it's a sign of more strong finishes to come with four races remaining. The Brickyard is always a special place to race and I have enjoyed coming here the past several years," said Michael Marsal. In Friday evening's Tudor United SportsCar Championship Brickyard Grand Prix the No. 94 BMW Z4 of Dane Cameron and Paul Dalla Lana started in the front row of the GTD field from the pole position. Cameron was able to edge out the fierce competition in Thursday's qualifying session to score the pole by less than one tenth of a second. Dalla Lana took the green flag for his third start at the Brickyard in a blue and yellow BMW. Dalla Lana quickly gained momentum managing a consistent three second gap over the entire GTD field. Just eighteen minutes into the race, race control called a full course caution for debris on track, bunching up the field. Following the restart, Dalla Lana worked hard to hold off the No. 45 ultimately giving up the lead on lap twenty. As Dalla Lana pushed to regain the lead, contact was made between the No. 94 and No. 45 entering turn three. The unfortunate contact sent the No. 94 BMW of Dalla Lana into the sand trap losing valuable track position. Just one hour into the race, Dalla Lana was called into the pits for a full service stop and driver change to get Dane Cameron behind the wheel. Cameron pushed on in an effort to regain crucial track position ultimately finishing P15. "We weren't able to achieve the results we had hoped for today despite the team's hard work. We ran into a bit of tough luck early on in the race and just couldn't make up the lost ground. We have had a strong string of results this season and we will look to build off them at Road America in a couple weeks," said Dane Cameron. The Turner team will take a brief break from competition before moving onto Road America for the next round of sports car racing on August 9th and 10th. Be sure to Tune into Fox Sports 1 on August 3rd at 12:00pm ET to watch the broadcast of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Source:
