F1: Red Bull says Hungary win better than Canada

The Red Bull Formula 1 team says its Hungarian Grand Prix victory was better than its triumph in Canada earlier this year because the dominant Mercedes cars didn't hit trouble.

Daniel Ricciardo remains the only man to have beaten Mercedes to a win this season, with some late overtaking moves securing his second F1 victory after an exciting race in tricky conditions. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner reckoned the emotions after this win were greater than in Canada, where Ricciardo had benefited from reliability issues for Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

"This is even more satisfying than Montreal because we beat them without problems," said Horner. "We got the strategy right, and it was a great performance by Daniel.

"The pit stops were good, the overtaking moves were excellent and we beat two Mercedes that didn't have any problems."

Although Ricciardo was helped by the early safety car – which came out at just the right moment for him to dive in to the pits – Horner still believes that the Australian's performance was decisive in helping him win.

"The guy is riding a crest of a confidence wave at the moment," said Horner. "He is driving the car with such and things are falling right for him as well.

"Being able to get in at the right time for that first stop was a critical element of the race, but we then had a problem on one of the cylinders on the engine on that penultimate stint. The Renault guys were able to find a way around it to disable the sensor and then his passing moves in the last five laps there – they topped a fantastic race really."
