Asmer to race MRS McLaren at Spa

Ex-British Formula 3 champion and F1 test driver Marko Asmer will make his international racing return in this weekend's Spa 24 Hours. The Estonian will be part of a four-driver line-up in the Molitor Racing System McLaren MP4-12C GT3, which will run in the Pro-Am class under the Russian GT by MRS banner.

Asmer has raced the car in three rounds of the ADAC GT Masters this season alongside German Florian Spengler, who is also part of the driving roster for Spa.

Lithuanian ex-Formula 2 race winner Kazimieras Vasiliauskas, who has recently been confined to karting and Baltic endurance racing, is another single-seater ace in the line-up, which is completed by Russian GT veteran Alexey Vasiliev.

Asmer said: "We've been struggling in GT Masters with the Balance of Performance, but Spa should be fun. Kazim and Alexey haven't driven the McLaren – Kazim has hardly driven anything recently – so our hope is to finish the race.

"Anything can happen and I hope at least that I can do my own part well."
