Next year's Le Mans 24 Hours will take place on June 13-14. The traditional mid-June date for the French enduro was confirmed during Thursday's FIA World Motor Sport Council.
It is likely that the 24 Hours will not clash with a Formula 1 race: the FIA stated its intent last year to avoid Le Mans and a grand prix falling on the same weekend.
The Le Mans Test Day will be on May 31, two weeks before the race. Scrutineering is set for the Sunday and Monday (June 6 and 7) ahead of the race and is likely to again take place on the Place de la Republique rather than its long-time home on the Place des Jacobins, which is undergoing major construction work.
DID YOU KNOW...
...the Le Mans 24 Hours has started in June in all but four years of its long history? The first edition in 1923 took place in May, the 1956 event in July and the 1968 race in September after student riots in the summer forced its postponement. The 1986 race straddled the end of May and the start of June.
