MotoGP: Hayden has surgery on injured wrist

Aspar MotoGP rider Nicky Hayden has undergone surgery to cure the wrist problem that forced him to withdraw from the Italian Grand Prix last weekend.

The American rider had been hindered by the problem for weeks and admitted it was time to listen to the doctors and have surgery. The former world champion had aggravated the injury with a fall during the French Grand Prix.

Hayden was operated on in Italy on Tuesday, where an arthroscopic cleaning procedure was carried out and some floating matter was removed.

His team said Hayden will be discharged from hospital later today and it hopes he will return to racing action in the GP of Catalunya next week.
