Jeff Zwart's "917x12" brings a legendary racecar to life

Accomplished Porsche racer, photographer, commercial director and RACER co-founder Jeff Zwart also somehow finds time to produce spectacular and unique art like this.

"917 x 12" is a composite featuring 12 different Porsche 917s that Zwart photographed for "917 x 17," his lavishly produced 2009 book that features pictorials of the 17 Porsche 917s that appeared at Rennsport Reunion III, along with recollections of what it was like to drive this epic sports car from 15 legendary drivers: Tony Adamowicz, Richard Attwood, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, George Follmer, Hurley Haywood, David Hobbs, Willi Kauhsen, Gerard Larrousse, Gijs van Lennep, Rudi Lins, Jackie Oliver, David Piper, Sam Posey and Brian Redman.

Zwart explains how the artwork goes far beyond a compilation of images:

"Each separate 917 is an individual archival print that is mounted on board and combined so the artwork is quite dimensional," he says. "All 12 cars form one single 917 image in a very large size. The artwork is nearly eight feet long and each piece is hand assembled.

"I did an edition of 10 pieces and five Artist Proofs. They are framed and boxed for pick-up or shipment. I have a few editions left in the series and they are available at $15,000 + shipping."
