IMSA: Drissi and Asch for Muehlner Motorsports America at Detroit
Tomy Drissi and Germany's Sebastian Asch will drive the No. 18 Muehlner Motorsports America Porsche in this weekend's Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Detroit, the team announced. Drissi is partnering with MMA by bringing sponsorship backing from Sony Pictures Entertainment and "22 Jump Street," set to release on June 13.
"I am really looking forward to have Tomy (Drissi) back with Muehlner Motorsports America," said Managing Director, Bernhard Muehlner. "He raced with us last year at Detroit, however the race was affected when we made contact with a DP car. Hopefully we will have more luck this year. Sebastian (Asch) raced with us in the 24 Hours of Spa in 2011 when we finished second on the podium, so I am confident we will perform great at Detroit."
"We are very happy that Tomy and Drissi Motorsports are partnering with our team," added Muehlner. "It is a big honor to have backing from Hollywood film '22 Jump Street' and we hope to bring them a successful result."
The first driver in the No. 18 machine will be Trans-Am champion and multi-time IMSA winner, Tomy Drissi. Drissi drove for Muehlner Motorsports America at Detroit in 2013 and was well on his way to a top-seven finish when a DP car made contact with him.
"It is great being back with this team," said Drissi. "MMA has big hearts and great goals. Detroit is an awesome track and it is going to be a street fight that I am ready for. The drivers have to work with each other and communicate well, so it's a give and take. However, at the same time you have to be aggressive. It is so cool to have Sony Pictures Entertainment and '22 Jump Street' supporting us. I can't thank them enough."
ADAC GT Masters champion Asch last drove for MMA at the 24 Hours of Spa in 2011, where he finished second.
"After having a successful result at the 24 Hours of Spa, I am really looking forward to drive again for Bernhard Muehlner," said Asch. "Hopefully, we will have another good result at Detroit."
The TUDOR Championship will be on-track at Detroit Belle Isle on Friday, May 30 for Practice 1 from 9:35-11:05am ET. You can catch Saturday's race on Fox Sports 1 at 1:30pm ET.
