Chase Austin injured in Indy Lights Freedom 100

Chase Austin suffered a fractured wrist in a crash during the Indy Lights Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday.

Austin, who was making his first appearance of the season in a car fielded by Belardi, sustained the injury when he ran too low through Turn 1 on lap 15 and rammed into the tyre barrier located at the inside of the corner. The wreckage then spun back onto the track where it came to rest.

After being helped from the car he was taken to the infield care center, and later to a nearby hospital for treatment. IndyCar officials said that the 24-year-old was awake and alert.

Austin was making his fourth consecutive start in the Lights race at Indianapolis, although he has not been confirmed for any additional races this year.
