F1: Hamilton keen to avenge Monaco defeat

Lewis Hamilton wants to put Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg under even more pressure in the Monaco Grand Prix, as their personal battle for the Formula 1 world championship continues.

Hamilton leads Rosberg by three points after winning the last four races on the bounce, but the German won from pole position in Monaco last year and claims he is undaunted by the Brit's current run of good form. Hamilton said earlier this season that he was focused on doing better at circuits where Rosberg had an edge in 2013 and he reckons being more comfortable with this year's Mercedes will allow him to put his teammate under more pressure around the streets of the principality.

"Monaco has always been a track that I've really done well at, but Nico was very, very quick here last year – there are not many teammates that I've allowed to beat me here," Hamilton said. "I'm really hoping that this weekend I can turn up the pressure again."

Although Hamilton was disappointed with his fourth place in Monaco a year ago, in retrospect he believes his pace was respectable given his discomfort with the Mercedes at the time.

"Last year was probably the toughest year in terms of being able to get the maximum out of the car," he said. "Last year I didn't really feel like I could do that anywhere, really.

"To have been second on the grid even though I wasn't getting 100 percent out of the car was quite cool. I'm hoping this weekend that I'm able to extract more from the car and it should be better."
