Tio Ellinas (LEFT) will make his GP2 debut with MP Motorsport at Barcelona this weekend, replacing Jon Lancaster (leading, TOP). The swap is one of two changes in the GP2 lineup for Spain, along with Sergio Canamasas returning to the series in place of Axcil Jefferies at Trident.
Ellinas was a GP3 race winner with Manor for the past two years, and also tested for the affiliated Marussia Formula 1 team. He had an outing with MP during GP2 testing last November, but had yet to secure a race deal for this year, despite taking part in Formula Renault 3.5 pre-season running. The 22-year-old from Cyprus also won the MRF Challenge series during the break in the European season.
Ellinas joins Daniel de Jong in the MP line-up, driving the car that Lancaster took to 15th and 17th places in the season opener in Bahrain last month.
Spanish 28-year-old Canamasas completed the full 2013 GP2 season with Caterham, taking a best result of eighth in the Abu Dhabi sprint race.
Sometime Formula 2 driver Jefferies had driven the second Trident car in Bahrain, but will now make away for Canamasas alongside Johnny Cecotto Jr.
