MotoGP seeks 2016 tire vendor within three weeks
MotoGP promoter Dorna has set a target of finding a 2016 tire supplier within the next three weeks after Bridgestone's surprise decision to withdraw from the sport.
Bridgestone, which has been MotoGP's sole tire supplier since 2009, announced on Thursday morning that it would close its program at the end of next year.
Dorna and motorcycle racing's governing body the FIM opened an immediate tender for a new tire supplier, with a closing date of May 22.
A Dorna statement added: "Dorna Sports SL wishes to thank Bridgestone for the years of great collaboration and success in the championship."
Dunlop and Bridgestone were Bridgestone's last rivals in MotoGP before they pulled out at the end of 2007 and '08, respectively.
