Tincknell takes pole for ELMS opener

Sports car newcomer Harry Tincknell claimed pole position for the opening round of the European Le Mans Series at Silverstone on his prototype debut.

The Briton took the pole with a lap of 1m47.702s aboard the Jota Sport Zytek-Nissan Z11SN. That compared with second-placed Franck Mailleux's best of 1m48.854s in the Race Performance team's ORECA-Judd/BMW 03.

Third place went to Karun Chandhok with a time a time less than a tenth behind. Ferrari factory driver Andrea Bertolini ended up fastest in GTE aboard his SMP Racing-run 458 Italia with a 1m52.970s.

Second place was taken by Daniel Zampieri in the British JMW Ferrari on a time six tenths behind.

Team Ukraine squad took qualifying honours in the GTC class for GT3 machinery with Alessandro Pierguidi at the wheel of its Ferrari 458 Italia.
