Alex Brundle to race ART McLaren in Blancpain GT
World Endurance Championship LMP2 runner-up Alex Brundle is set to contest the full European Le Mans Series with the ART Grand Prix McLaren squad.
Brundle, who will also remain with OAK Racing in P2 for selected events this season, will drive one of ART's two GTC class McLaren MP4-12C GT3s at the Silverstone ELMS opener this weekend and seems likely to remain with the team for the season. He will share the car with Ricardo Gonzalez, part of OAK's winning WEC lineup last year, and Syrian Karim Ajlani, who has also raced for OAK in P2.
"I did the ELMS test with ART in March, but this has all been a bit last minute," Brundle said. "I don't have any team gear yet. The plan is that I will continue after Silverstone, but we will have to see after this one."
Brundle explained that he wants to establish his credentials in GT racing as well as in the prototype ranks.
"When this opportunity came up, I snapped it up because I need to find my way in GT racing," he said.
The second of the two McLarens run by ART, which finished first and third in last weekend's opening round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza (pictured, TOP), will be driven by Kevin Korjus, Gregoire Demoustier and Yann Goudy.
