McKenzie joins JMW Ferrari for ELMS

Former Aston Martin junior driver Daniel McKenzie will race in this year's European Le Mans Series for the JMW Ferrari team.

McKenzie is moving up from the Blancpain Endurance Series, in which he raced for the Beechdean AMR squad last year, to drive JMW Motorsport's GTE class Ferrari 458 Italia in the five-round series.

The ex-Formula Renault 3.5 driver joins the team after a successful tryout in last week's official ELMS test at Paul Ricard and has become the second driver confirmed by the team after former Porsche Carrera Cup racer George Richardson.

"Daniel did a really good job at the test and he will be part of a really good lineup," JMW team boss Tim Sugden said.

Terms have also been agreed with a third driver, who is expected to be announced shortly. He will be the team's solo gold-rated driver allowed under the GTE class regulations for the ELMS.

None of the JMW's ELMS drivers will be part of the squad for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. Sugden promised a "very interesting announcement" on his team's Le Mans lineup in the near future.

JMW has ended its long-term relationship with Dunlop and will run on Michelin tires in 2014.
