V8 Supercars: Whincup doubles up in race two

Jamie Whincup took his second V8 Supercars win of the day for Triple Eight as teammate Craig Lowndes came from 25th to fifth at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.

Whincup -- who won in controversial circumstances in the first race after taking out Lowndes -- led from start to finish, and a perfect start after the safety car with five laps to go sealed the win.

Winterbottom came as close as two tenths to Whincup in the early running, but the Triple Eight Holden pulled away just after halfway as early stability issues faded for Whincup.

Fabian Coulthard struggled to stay in touch with the leaders, and remained in third for most of the race.

Lowndes - who started at the back of the grid after an illegal piece of tape was found on his car in qualifying - made up 20 places to finish fifth following an epic battle with Volvo Polestar's Scott McLaughlin. The young Kiwi fended off Lowndes as the two were sideways onto the pit straight with a lap to go.

After his podium in the first race, James Courtney struggled for most of race two down in the late teens, but the late safety car proved in his favour, as he improved to 11th.
