French rallycross champion Jerome Grosset-Janin will graduate to the 2014 European Rallycross Championship this season. The French driver will race his title-winning Chanoine Competition Renault Clio Supercar in the series. He will also contest his home round of the World Rallycross Championship at Loheac in September.
Grosset-Janin won the French championship with two events to spare last season. He had less joy at the European championship event at Loheac, where, despite setting fast times, he was ruled out by transmission problems.
“It is a big opportunity; there’s no denying that the competition will be very high, especially with experienced drivers like Jacques Villeneuve and Petter Solberg being part of the championship,” said Grosset-Janin. “I will concentrate on the European title and I hope that we will deliver some outstanding races at the same time.”
Chanoine Competition hopes to use the European series as a leg up into the full world championship in 2015.
“Our main target is to do well in Europe but also to finish with a good result at our home race in Loheac, which will hopefully help us to find new partners to enter World RX in 2015,” said team principal Philippe Chanoine.
The European championship gets underway at Lydden Hill, UK, in May.
