GP3: Eriksson moves to Koiranen for 2014
Jimmy Eriksson will move to Koiranen for his second GP3 season after his Russian Time deal fell through.
The Swede was the first driver announced for Russian Time's new GP3 program, but all its driver deals were voided in the wake of team founder Igor Mazepa's death and the collapse of the squad's deal with Motopark.
Eriksson had been set to be joined at Russian Time by German Formula 3 champion Marvin Kirchhofer and sometime Formula 2 front-runner Markus Pommer.
"The last few weeks have been some of the most emotionally unsettling of my career, and I'm immensely thankful to Koiranen GP for their vital efforts to help get me onto the GP3 grid in a competitive car," said Eriksson. "From thinking everything was on-track for a strong season with Russian Time, to the tragic passing of Igor and a complete turnaround in everything we'd been working on over the winter, it has been an experience I'd now like to move on from."
The 22-year-old raced for Status in GP3 last season, having won the German F3 title in 2012. He is the first driver to join Koiranen's GP3 squad for 2014. The squad finished third in the GP3 standings last year in its debut season, winning races with Aaro Vainio.
