IMSA: New Ligier P2 coupe unveiled

Coming off of a stellar season in the World Endurance Championship with its Morgan-branded P2 chassis, Onraok Automotive hopes its next P2 challenger, dubbed the Ligier JS P2, will continued the manufacturer's success on the international stage.

Its current P2 car, which won the P2 class last year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, started life as a Pescarolo chassis, but the closed-top Ligier marks Onroak's first brand-new design and is expected to carry multiple engine packages this season.

Built at its base within the Le Mans circuit, the JS P2 is the first of two new coupes to hail from France, with ORECA's replacement for its 03 chassis expected to emerge later in the year.

"I'm really delighted that the first 100 percent Onroak Automotive product is a Ligier," said Onroak president Jacques Nicolet in reference to legendary French Formula 1 and sports car constructor Guy Ligier. "With its closed bodywork the Ligier JS P2 is an exceptionally attractive product, in particular for teams interested by the [TUDOR United SportsCar Championship]."

Through his Oak Racing team, Nicolet's company fields full-time P2 entries in the WEC and the TUDOR Championship, and it's believed at least one JS P2 will join the North American series after the 24 Hours of Le Mans is run in June. Power for the TUDOR Championship Ligier could come from Honda.

Testing is expected to commence immediately. The WEC kicks off on April 20 at Silverstone.
