IMSA: Injured Gidley making good progress
Injured TUDOR United SportsCar Championship driver Memo Gidley is "showing signs of significant improvement" after his move to a rehabilitation center, according to his GAINSCO/Bob Stallings team.
Gidley, who sustained leg, arm and back injuries in an accident in last month's Rolex 24 at Daytona, is making progress after being transferred from hospital in Daytona Beach to the Santa Rosa Memorial Acute Rehab Center in Santa Rosa, California last week.
GAINSO boss Bob Stallings said: "I spoke to Memo for about 25 minutes on the phone, and I was jubilant in hearing his voice, hearing how clear headed and articulate he was.
"The progress he's made has been startling to me, as he's come a long way since Daytona."
Stallings added that Gidley's spirits were high and that he was "extremely positive in his attitude towards his future."
A schedule for Gidley's rehabilitation has yet to be fully worked out by his doctors in Santa Rosa.
Gidley sustained his injuries when his Riley-Chevrolet Daytona Prototype plowed into the back of Matteo Malucelli's Risi Competizione Ferrari on the infield section of the track.
