Lewis Hamilton says he will not be satisfied until he takes his first victory for Mercedes.

The Briton was in a downbeat mood throughout the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, and appeared far from overjoyed at taking his third podium of the season following a tough fight with Fernando Alonso.

Speaking after the race about why he seemed disappointed with a result that has kept him in the title hunt, Hamilton said that all he was focused on was delivering a win.

“I don’t settle for anything but the best, and wins,” said Hamilton. “This was a good weekend, an OK weekend, but I still haven’t got a win. Nico [Rosberg] has won a race, so I need to get a win.”

Hamilton’s result helped Mercedes move up to third place in the constructors’ championship, while he is now fourth in the drivers’ standings.

“There are positives to take away from the weekend,” he said. “It’s positive in the sense the team is up to third in the constructors.

“I’m happy I can get those points for the team because they are working so hard and we’re doing a lot better than I ever expected when I joined the team, so I definitely can’t complain. But I want to win.”

Hamilton again spent much of the Canadian GP being forced to manage his tires, with Mercedes not yet having got on top of its degradation issues. He believes there are now signs of the team getting on top of the situation, although he expects a tough time at Silverstone later this month.

“I think we’ve made a small step in progress,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve cured it. It’s just been the tracks that have really helped.

“I also think a little bit of driver technique is starting to help. But Silverstone will be a real challenge for us, so fingers crossed it’s not going to be a problem.”

Hamilton also insisted that his mood over the weekend was not indicative of any disappointment with the performance of the team or car.

“What I’m projecting is not disappointment, I’ve just got stuff on my mind,” said Hamilton, declining to explain further.
