GT: Loeb Racing switches to Audi for 2014

Sebastien Loeb Racing will swap from McLaren to Audi machinery for its 2014 GT campaigns.

The French team, which finished runner-up in both the FIA GT Series and the French GT Championship with the McLaren MP4-12C last season, has decided to run the Audi R8 LMS ultra for its 2014 programs.

Team manager Dominique Heintz, who founded the team with rally legend Sebastien Loeb ahead of the 2012 season, said: “The choice to enter the Audi R8 LMS ultra is the result of a long thought process. Our discussions with Audi were very positive and we were convinced by the Audi R8 LMS ultra’s qualities.”

The Loeb team stated that it expects to announce what it is calling a “multi-faceted program” in the coming weeks. A return to French GTs appears likely and it is also looking at the Blancpain Endurance Series.

The team is also evaluating a return to the LMP2 ranks, in which it competed with an ORECA-Nissan 03 in the 2012 European Le Mans Series, and undertook a test with the car at Navarra in December.

Sebastien Loeb Racing’s only confirmed program in 2014 is another attack on the Porsche Carrera Cup in France, which it won in 2012 with Jean-Karl Vernay.
