Allgaier steps up into Sprint Cup

Justin Allgaier will step up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup this year after securing a full-time deal with Phoenix Racing.

Allgaier, who finished fifth in last year's Nationwide standings, will drive the team's No. 51 entry.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I intend to make the most of it," said the 27-year-old, who will race alongside Bobby Labonte. "I am very grateful to [team owner] Harry Scott for having faith in me to compete against the best drivers in the world."

Scott said he is confident that Allgaier can make an impression in his rookie year.

"Justin has worked extremely hard to get to this level and he is ready to take the next step," he added. "Working with competition director and crew chief Steve Addington, I think the 51 can turn some heads this year."

Allgaier's entry will be backed by agriculture retailer and manufacturer BRANDT.
