GP2 officials have revealed the calendar for the 2014 season, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the series.
A total of 11 rounds, the same as in 2013, will form next year’s calendar, with the debuts of Russia and Austria as the highlights. The two rounds will replace Malaysia and Singapore, absent from next year’s schedule.
The season will kick off alongside the Bahrain Grand Prix on April 4 following two tests in Abu Dhabi (March 11-13) and Bahrain (March 19-21). The championship will finish in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 23, with all rounds happening at Formula 1 events again.
“In our effort to cut freight costs, we have decided to keep the same number of events as we did last season and to only maintain Sakhir and Yas Marina as overseas rounds; each opening and closing our season,” said GP2 boss Bruno Michel.
“I am delighted to add Sochi to our calendar as well: this is another prestigious Formula 1 circuit which our drivers will be able to learn.
“Our European season now also includes Spielberg: it will be the first time that GP2 goes to Austria, another F1 venue.”
