Wondering what to give the F1 fan who has everything? Bernie Ecclestone has the answer ” assuming you can pay to play in the rarefied air of F1 playboys and girls.
The 852-page “Official Formula One Opus BERNIE Edition,” which comes in a carbon-fiber clam-shell-style case,
includes “hundreds of never-before-seen photographs,” according to its publisher, Opus Media, and will be sold via auction on Dec. 24. The book comes as part of a package deal providing unparalleled access, for its owner and three guests, to all 2014 races. That means you’ll get to party in the paddock at every day of F1 competition next season with a coveted “red pass” and access to the exclusive Paddock Club, and even get a personal meeting with Bernie himself. And don’t worry about lugging the 77-lb Opus book with you ” it comes with a signature sheet containing original autographs of the 22 F1 world champions.
“This book gives you the opportunity to experience F1 like never before,” Opus Media CEO Karl Fowler told CNN. “You can go to every single race across the world, take in all three days, go into the paddocks, have a drink and see the drivers. You’ll get to spend time with Mr. Ecclestone and have a sporting experience you couldn’t get anywhere else.”
So we would hope, considering the book and its assorted extras has an auction reserve price of $1 million, and Fowler says that three bids have already been placed.
If you can’t quite stretch to $1 million, don’t despair ” there will be two other renditions of the F1 Opus: the silk-covered ?classic? edition of 1,500 copies, which will be signed by Ecclestone and will cost Ł2,000 [$3,250]; and the carbon-fiber-clad ?champions? edition which, as well as carrying Ecclestone’s signature, will also have those of the same 22 F1 world champions that come with “The Bernie.” Limited to 100 books, that version will go for Ł20,000 [$32,500] per copy.
