Newly crowned four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is the overwhelming favorite to win his seventh straight race this weekend, according to players of the Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor.
But while Vettel’s momentum makes him hard to look past when guessing a winner, Lotus could have been overlooked. While Vettel has captured 64 percent of the prediction in the build up to Abu Dhabi, Lotus drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have just a six per cent chance of winning, or so say the GPP players.
The GPP expert panel that includes former F1 drivers Timo Glock and Karun Chandhok, plus triple World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx, are divided in their opinion, with some suggesting that this weekend could be the one when Grosjean finally breaks into the winner’s circle.
The Frenchman has been knocking on the door with podiums in each of the last three races and Lotus won the Yas Marina race last year with Raikkonen.
GPP ambassador Chandhok said: “I’m going to say Romain Grosjean for the win. He’s been driving superbly and on a point and squirt circuit with less high speed flowing sections the Lotus will be closer to the Red Bulls I think.”
