Court to hear bid to cancel Indian GP

India's Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking the cancellation of this weekend's grand prix over alleged unpaid taxes.

Organizers of India's Formula 1 event had to add tax on ticket prices this year following a 2011 ruling that the event was entertainment rather than sport. That meant it could not benefit from tax exemptions.

The Supreme Court will hear the petition, which has been brought by campaigner Amit Kumar, who was also behind the original legal challenge to the Indian GP's tax arrangements, on Friday.

India will not be part of the 2014 F1 calendar, with uncertainty over its chances of returning to the schedule in future years.
