Altitude record-holder Baumgartner to race VW at DTM finale

World record skydiver Felix Baumgartner will be a guest driver in the VW Scirocco R-Cup finale on the DTM bill at Hockenheim, which will also feature Laurent Aiello's return to racing.

Baumgartner achieved a world record with his Red Bull-backed skydive from the edge of space a year ago. He has been a guest of VW at several events this season, and will now be one of the star drivers in its one-make series as part of the support package for this weekend's DTM finale at German Grand Prix venue Hockenheim.

"He may not achieve quite the same speeds as he did during his record-breaking leap, but it will be exciting to see how Baumgartner fares on four wheels," said a VW statement.

The usual lineup of motorsport veterans in the other guest cars also includes 2002 DTM champion Laurent Aiello this weekend. It will be the Frenchman's first race since he retired at the end of 2005.

Frank Biela, Manuel Reuter and Eric Helary are the other invited drivers.
