Ekstrom: V8s more fun than DTM
Two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom reckons V8 Supercars are more fun to drive than the Audi S5 he races in Europe.
The Swede made his debut in the Australian-based series at the classic Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, finishing an impressive 10th alongside team-mate and fellow DTM regular Andy Priaulx.
"The car is way more interesting to drive in terms of racing," he said. "You can race hard and stay close together."
Ekstrom had been mentored by Holden legend Mark Skaife, who said during the race commentary that it was the most impressive debut at the track he had ever seen.
"I was pleased with the laps I did in the race," said Ekstrom. "In qualifying I could improve a bit."
It was Priaulx's best result in four visits to Bathurst and he enjoyed teaming up with his DTM rival.
"It's been great working together," he said. "I knew that he would be competitive and I thoroughly enjoyed it."
