Whincup heads Bathurst 1000 qualifying
Multiple V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup set the pace in a closely fought qualifying session at Bathurst. The Triple 8 Holden driver headed the times in the session deciding who will make the top 10 shoot-out on Saturday.
FPR's Mark Winterbottom was second fastest from Brad Jones Racing's Jason Bright.
Former champion James Courtney was fourth fastest, but his HRT teammate Garth Tander was bumped to 11th in the closing seconds of the session and will not be in the fight for pole.
Shane van Gisbergen was fifth fastest ahead of the second Triple 8 car of Craig Lowndes.
Will Davison was eighth, David Reynolds ninth, while former DTM racer Alex Premat did a great job to get his Garry Rogers Holden into the top 10.
Having got the nod to qualify the Xbox One Triple 8 car ahead of more experienced teammate Andy Priaulx, former DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom ran in the top 10 for much of the session, but was bumped down to 18th during the fraught final minutes.
