CRT squad Forward Racing will campaign a non-factory Yamaha in next year’s MotoGP championship.
Owner Giovanni Cuzari confirmed the team will run a 2013-spec Yamaha M1 engine, with Yamaha also providing the frame and swingarm on a one-year deal. Partners FTR will be responsible for the majority of remaining chassis parts.
Yamaha agreed to lease prototype MotoGP engines to independent teams in 2014 back in April this year. The move means Yamaha will be able to continue to use its own software within the control ECU that will come into play in top-level grand prix racing in 2014.
The Forward Racing Yamaha will run with the spec Magnetti Marelli software, meaning it will be permitted to run 24 litres of fuel rather than the 21 permitted for Yamaha’s factory bikes.
Yamaha’s general manager of motorsport development Masahiko Nakajima said the team would conduct its own tests of the spec software in order to ensure its reliability and competitiveness.
