Dario Franchitti and Patrick Dempsey in Porsche 935s at Monterey Reunion
Four-time IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti and racer/actor Patrick Dempsey turn demonstration laps in two iconic Porsche 935s the famed "Moby Dick" for Dario and "Baby" by Patrick during the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and gave an exclusive account of the experience afterward. "To drive Moby Dick...it's the same age as my little brother," said the Scot, who has a garage filled with various examples of the German manufacturer's finest products. "It's just a car I've dreamed about driving.
"Tuesday, I was wearing a Moby Dick shirt given to me by some friends of mine in Canada. I was walking around with it, and here I am today driving it. It's one of the bonuses about what I get to do for a living; it's just little things--you get to meet your heroes and drive cars you've dreamed about your whole life. It's pretty cool."
Dempsey, who competes in the American Le Mans Series with a pair of Tully's Coffee-sponsored Porsches, was taken aback after feeling the power of the tiny 1.4-liter turbo around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
"It was so much fun,"he said with a grin. "You step back in time with the driving style. It just feels great. The sound of the turbos kicking in..."
