Auto GP race winner Vittorio Ghirelli is likely to make further GP2 outings with Lazarus this year.
Ghirelli made his GP2 debut at the Hungaroring last month, a circuit where he recorded his first Auto GP victory in May this year. He finished 17th in both races.
“GP2 at the Hungaroring was a very big opportunity for me,” said Ghirelli. “The team has a big sponsor so they are in a position to help a young Italian driver. “I think it is quite likely that I will go to Spa. At the Hungaroring I had some problems with traffic in qualifying, but I think the race pace was quite good and there is potential.
“Unfortunately I went out in qualifying quite early, so I kept encountering traffic coming out of the pits and had to abort nearly all of my qualifying laps. Of course it would also be great to do my home race at Monza, but my main focus this weekend is on Auto GP.”
Ghirelli qualified on the front row for the Nurburgring’s opening Auto GP race of the weekend on Saturday afternoon.
