Pedrosa: Triple-header may decide title

Dani Pedrosa says ensuring he has returned to full fitness ahead of MotoGP’s triple-header of Indianapolis, Brno and Silverstone will be crucial to his 2013 title hopes.

The Spaniard was forced to withdraw from the German Grand Prix following a heavy practice crash which also compromised him one week later in the US GP, where he finished fifth. In the process, he surrendered 39 points and with it the championship lead to team-mate Marc Marquez.

With Indianapolis kicking off a run of three back-to-back race weekends, Pedrosa says it is imperative he is back to full fitness in order to keep himself in the title hunt.

“I have a few days to recover and recharge, which is the most important thing,” Pedrosa said. “We hope to be in top physical condition for the second half of the season, which starts with three races in a row. It is important to be physically fit, in order to be able to take things full-on over those three weeks.

“We lost the ability to score points [through injury] – we didn’t get any at Sachsenring and we lost some points at Laguna Seca. Hopefully everything is behind us now.”

Pedrosa said it was a boost to still be in the title fight despite his injury setback, but admitted that situation also owed to his rivals making similar errors.

“Honestly, I’m very happy. Whenever you make a big effort and take risks like I did at the United States Grand Prix, getting good results and points is very rewarding,” he said. “We’ve ridden well, [and] although we have not ridden every race to perfection we are still fighting for the title.

“Luckily for me, they [title rivals Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez] have also made mistakes. Maybe Marquez is the one who has made the least, and that is why he is the leader. The important thing is to maintain a high level and keep it up until the end of the year.

“If I manage to ride every race well and not make mistakes, that can give [me] the championship.”
