New Acura NSX breaks cover at Mid-Ohio
Acura's new NSX hybrid sports car, shown here in a spy shot released by the company on Twitter, will make a public appearance at the Mid-Ohio Indy 200 on Aug. 4.
The new model, which is expected to begin production in 2015, is powered by a 90-degree V6 mounted behind the two-seater's occupants that sends its power to the rear wheels and is augmented by an electric motor. Acura's SH-AWD incorporates one electric motor in a dual-clutch transmission, forming a hybrid setup. Additionally, two more motors can instantly send negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering for improved handling and efficiency. Acura claims the new all-wheel-drive system will provide supercar-level acceleration while offering better efficiency.
The Mid-Ohio race is an obvious tie-in, as the car will be built at Honda's plant in Marysville, Ohio. Honda plans to develop a GTE racing version of the NSX to run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
