Arciero Racing bringing four iconic cars to Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

By

More than 550 historic race cars dating as far back as 1911 and up through 2016 will fill the race paddock of Monterey County’s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion August 15-18. The largest event of the Monterey Classic Car Week attracts international drivers and museum-quality historic race cars to compete on the legendary 2.238-mile road course.

This year, Arciero Racing has entered four very special and iconic race cars. Frank “Butch” Arciero Jr will be driving the rare 1958 Lotus Mk.11 S2 while younger brother Albert “Al” Arciero will be doing double duty in his 1969 Chevrolet Trans Am Camaro and his prized 1958 Lister Chevy Knobbly. Joining the Arciero brothers at Laguna Seca will be Mike Follmer piloting Arciero’s 1973 Penske Racing Sunoco Porsche 911 RSR.

The Penske Sunoco Porsche is the same car that Penske entered in the 1973 Daytona 24 Hours and driven by Mike’s uncle George Follmer and Mark Donohue. Mike Follmer is very thankful to Al Arciero for the opportunity to drive this perfectly restored Porsche for the first time at such a historic place and to have a Follmer back in the seat 46 years after its racing debut.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will for the first time feature a racing series that has decades-long ties to the track — IMSA — to commemorate the series’ 50th anniversary. The Reunion is featuring four action packed days of competition and festivities showcasing 14 different groups of racing.
