Darlington Raceway will celebrate the 70th running of the Bojangles Southern 500 and the fifth year of Throwback Weekend later this season.

This year, Darlington has announced the 1990-1994 era as the throwback theme. A few Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams have already unveiled their paint schemes for the Sept. 1 event, including both cars from Richard Childress Racing and three of the four Stewart-Haas Racing cars.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s drivers will honor team co-owner and 2020 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Tony Stewart with paint schemes from his career. The No. 10 of Aric Almirola will represent Stewart’s 2002 Cup Series championship while the No. 41 of Daniel Suarez represents Stewart’s 2005 championship feat. Clint Bowyer’s No. 14 pays homage to Stewart’s third and final title win in 2011.

The No. 6 Oscar Mayer Ford Mustang will pay homage to the 1993 scheme Mark Martin drove to victory in the Southern 500. It was team owner Jack Roush’s first victory in the event.

Martin Truex Jr.’s throwback paint scheme on the No. 19 Toyota goes back to one he drove in the Xfinity Series in 2004. That season was Truex’s first full year in the NASCAR national series, and he won the championship on the strength of six wins.
