NASCAR has penalized the Richard Childress Racing No. 3 team for a deck lid violation last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
The team has been docked 10 owner and driver points with crew chief Danny Stockman fined $25,000. Car chief Gregory Ebert has been suspended for the next Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, which will be this weekend at Dover.
NASCAR confiscated the team’s deck lid on Friday while the team worked on it between practice sessions. Stockman said his team was working on the piece to make sure it fit the templates before qualifying, but NASCAR officials did not like that body filler was being used.
According to the regulations, teams are not permitted to manipulate or alter a manufactured piece. A NASCAR spokesperson said over the weekend that teams have also been told in recent weeks not to use Bondo/body filler through memos from series managing director Jay Fabian.
NASCAR also announced that Team Penske crew chief Jeremy Bullins of Ryan Blaney’s No. 12 team has been fined $10,000 for not having a lug nut secure.
Additionally, Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver Austin Wayne Self has been reinstated following the completion of NASCAR’s Road to Recovery Program. Self was indefinitely suspended at the beginning of the month for a failed drug test.
