Newman leads Roush 1-2 in second Talladega practice

Roush Fenway Racing drivers Ryan Newman and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were the fastest in final NASCAR Cup Series practice at Talladega.

Newman’s fast lap was 204.157 mph (46.905 seconds) while Stenhouse ran a lap of 204.127 mph. They were the fastest of six drivers who were in the 204-mph range.

The other drivers were Martin Truex Jr. (204.114 mph), Matt Tifft (204.092 mph), Kyle Busch (204.079 mph), and Erik Jones (204.062 mph).

Speeds in final practice were faster than what drivers ran in the morning session and despite changes NASCAR made going into the afternoon.

Completing the top 10 were Aric Almirola (202.611 mph), Paul Menard (202.328 mph), Matt DiBenedetto (202.243 mph), and Denny Hamlin (201.949 mph).

There were no incidents in the session.

Kyle Larson at 16th fastest ran the most laps at 38.
