Kevin Harvick was fastest in the second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana with a lap of 175.867 mph (40.940s).
Harvick’s Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang paced the 50-minute session, edging Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry), whose fastest lap was 175.773 mph. Brad Keselowski was third at 175.644 mph with last year’s winner, Martin Truex Jr., fourth fastest at 175.550 mph.
Richard Childress Racing rookie Daniel Hemric completed the top five at 175.409 mph.
The rest of the top 10 were Joey Logano (175.268), Aric Almirola (175.076), Alex Bowman (175.050), pole-sitter Austin Dillon (174.919) and Chris Buescher (174.838).
There were no significant incidents in the session although Kyle Larson suffered minor damage to the right rear quarter panel of his Chevrolet when he brushed the wall. Larson was 26th fastest.
