Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. were fastest in the first of two Daytona 500 practice sessions Friday afternoon.
Busch led the way with a lap of 200.285 mph (44.936 seconds). Truex clocked in at 200.200 mph.
Filling out the rest of the 10 were Ryan Preece (200.169 mph), Erik Jones (200.156 mph), Ryan Newman (200.093 mph), Matt DiBenedetto (200.080 mph), Denny Hamlin (200.044 mph), Darrell Wallace Jr. (199.627 mph), David Ragan (199.296 mph), and Chase Elliott (199.208 mph).
As has become standard on the restrictor-plate tracks, the session saw differing strategies for teams between participating in drafting or running alone.
There were no incidents during the 50-minute session.
