Toyota confirms 2019/20 WEC participation
Toyota Gazoo Racing has confirmed that it will continue to participate in the World Endurance Championship through the 2019/20 season, the last for the current set of regulations.
This comes as no surprise, as the team can campaign its TS050 HYBRID one final time at Le Mans before the hypercar regulations come into effect the following season.
The team's driver line-up for next season is still to be confirmed, although it looks increasingly unlikely that double F1 world champion, Le Mans and Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Fernando Alonso will return as part of the full season roster.
The 2019/20 season will be the seventh consecutive full season WEC campaign for the Toyota team, which joined the WEC full-time at Le Mans in the opening season of the championship in 2012. Since then the team has scored a record 20 overall race wins with its TS030, 040 and now 050 LMP1s, including the manufacturers and drivers world championships in 2014 and the Le Mans 24 Hours win in 2018.
